Who, Why, What and Where!

Who, Why What and Where!

We have gone into a lot of detail with regards to some of the great gardens that we can help you achieve. Realising the perfect outdoor space that not only adds value to your property but gives you the garden you’ve always wanted. We not only help individuals but also work on larger projects too. We can work alongside developers on their landscape schemes, aiding in achieving wonderful results to complement luxury housing estates and high-end construction projects.  We thought this would be the perfect time to tell you a bit more about us as a company and what drives us to work in this industry.

Who are we?

As experienced garden designers, we strive to achieve a singular artistic effect, even early on in the process! We must carefully select plant varieties that are most adaptable to the terrain and prevailing weather conditions, no matter what size the space is, large or small. Based on a site evaluation, we must also ensure to locate plants where they will receive the correct amount of sunlight and moisture they require to thrive.

Our job as garden designers proceeds from an understanding of the limitations of the site and the plant varieties that will be installed in the garden. Our creativity is expressed through a sound knowledge of horticulture. At the most basic level, we understand that choosing the right plant and installing it in the right place is the key to maximising available garden space. Whether that space is a private residence or a large development project involving multiple gardens of various sizes and locations. We know that to be able to deliver such things, we must be at the very top of our game.

We are proud pre-registered members of the Society of Garden Designers (SGD), which means our work must measure up to their very high standards. Following their code of conduct means we have experienced accredited designers who subscribe to the highest professional standards and are committed to the continual development of our knowledge and skills.

Why do we do what we do?

Why do anything unless you can do it to the very highest standards? Starting out, we knew that we needed to gain some experience with industry leaders and for several years that is exactly what we did! We worked for multiple award-winning companies gaining a great insight into the garden design world.

Knowing this was the industry for us, we then had to get the qualifications down!  I’m Samuel Moore, one of the owners and garden designers at Consilium Hortus. I personally studied for a degree in Landscape and Garden Design at Writtle University College, which provided me with the essential skills required in this industry. I know I can speak for all of us when I say we love to create a space that is both beautiful and functional. That’s where excellent garden design comes in!

What do we do?

So, what does Consilium Hortus do?  Well, we work on private projects and we also take on bigger developments where we know we can offer a level of expertise that can enhance the level of luxury schemes and estates that can be achieved.  Anyone can claim to be a ‘gardener’ but we pride ourselves on a certain level of detail and planning that goes into every project we take on.

From detailed drawings to expert knowledge on form, colour, textures, negative space and activity zones. This is a science for us and that’s what makes us stand out above the rest as gardens designers. It’s our job to understand how a garden works and how it needs to work for the induvial or as a collaborative project along with other gardens.

Where do we work?

The answer to this is wherever!  We have worked on many projects in the UK and further afield too. Consilium Hortus is based in Essex, near London. We primarily, because of recent covid restrictions, work in and around this area along with Suffolk, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire. We undertake garden and landscape design projects where we are needed! We do also provide garden design and landscape architectural services in the UK but also internationally.

If we can help you with a project, whether that is an individual garden or you a developer looking for assistance with a larger more complex one. Reach out today, we’d love to help.
